Am I eligible for the Delaware Volunteer Credit?
If you are a high school student volunteering or working on a service project and your district or charter school board has adopted a policy for approving such credit, then you are eligible to participate in the Delaware Volunteer Credit program. Check with your school counselor for approval.
How do I register for the DVC?
To register, go to volunteer.delaware.gov, click on the Volunteers tab, and choose register. Once you complete the information and click submit, you will receive an email with a code (you must have a valid email), and then enter that code into the field. Your registration is then complete. Be sure to check the Delaware Volunteer Credit box and fill in ALL required information.
Where can I volunteer?
There are many registered approved non-profits with volunteer opportunities available on the website for students to choose from. If you cannot locate your organization here, we ask that you please reach out to confirm if your volunteer organization and hours qualify.
How do I keep track of my hours?
Go to volunteer.delaware.gov, sign into your account and choose Self-Report hours. Enter the Opportunity Name, the registered Organization Served, Date of Service, Start and End Time. (You must report at the end of each shift).
How long do I have to complete the 90 volunteer hours of service requirement?
The 90 hours of service must be completed during your high school years.
Can I volunteer during school hours?
Volunteer service hours cannot be done during normal school hours and cannot be required to complete a course.
What is the deadline for completion of hours?
Hours must be self-reported and verified by April 1st.
When will I receive the credit?
Volunteer Delaware will notify your school counselor as the 90 hours are completed for each student to place one elective credit on your high school transcript. Placement of the credit is completed by the school counselor. For any questions, please follow up with your School Counselor.
When do I receive my Certificate?
Certificates are brought to the Governor’s office for signature and then go to the Department of Education for signing. Once received, Volunteer Delaware will mail them to the schools.
