What is the DVC?

  • Provides an opportunity to earn one elective credit toward graduation.
  • Volunteering must be completed in the state of Delaware.
  • Awards students with a signed Certificate of Completion by the Governor and Secretary of Education.

Who Can Participate?

  • Any student in grades 9-12.
  • Students can begin the summer before freshman year.
  • Students who complete 90 hours of community service outside of a regular school day from an approved organization listed on volunteer.delaware.gov.

Opportunities

  • Volunteer openings available at volunteer.delaware.gov/volunteers-ways-to-volunteer.
  • Possibility of being nominated for Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards.
  • Option to apply for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
  • Looks great on your resume and college applications.

Getting Started

  • Meet with your counselor to discuss participation.
  • Register on volunteer.delaware.gov.
  • Self-report credit hours for each individual day of volunteer service.
  • Consider applying for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award at volunteer.delaware.gov/pvsa.
